My wife and I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Wey on the construction of a home office building on our rural property in Fair Hill, Cecil County. Our relationship actually started when we were pursuing the conversion of a large [timer frame] barn on our property into an office, entertainment area and bedrooms. Due to the scope, complexity and high cost of that endeavor, we decided to tackle a much smaller project by building a free standing office using [timber frame] construction. The job was done with great care and precision. In addition to being a gifted wood crafter and custom builder, Joe was a true partner in this project as he took full ownership of every aspect of the job. Joe consistently added tangible value with new ideas and suggestions throughout the progress of the work. I was constantly impressed with Joe’s commitment to generating a top quality product rather than maximizing his profit margin. He kept me closely informed of the work progress and his communication, whether by phone or email, was always clear, informative and helpful.
In closing, I can say that we are extremely pleased with the final product that Joe was instrumental in Delivering. As a real estate developer with over thirty years of experience, I have had my fair share of unpleasant experiences with various general contractors. Joe Wey and his talented team at Wey Timber Frames built our wonderfully distinctive home on the shore of the Chesapeake Bay in rural Kent County, Maryland. Building this 4300 sq.ft. architect-designed house was a complex project, requiring an understanding of the most up-to-date and efficient building techniques combined with the knowledge and skills of historical timber framing. Precise, continuous, and open communication with the architect, carpenters, subcontractors and others involved in the building process was critical to the success of the project. Joe’s performance in these areas was consistently superb, proving his skills as both a master builder and craftsman.
The timber frame part of the house—a 19’ x 43’ great room—was built with posts and beams handcrafted in the Wey Timber Frames shop. Each component was joined with glove like precision and pegged together on site. The beauty of the wood, the joinery, the network of beams, rafters and braces, are all evidence of Joe’s woodworking craftsmanship.
Working with Joe was as much a pleasure as watching the daily progress on the house.
